Dallas County Juvenile Justice Students
Students are referred to SOH for 90-120 days to participate in our faith-based programs for at- risk youth. SOH was the first faith-based organization contracted by Dallas county to work in the after school program. Our success rate has been an average 80%, lowering recidivism rates dramatically since program inception. SOH started operating in West Dallas, but now work the entire county.
World Vision Supplies
SOH was one of the first member organizations to the North Texas store house for World Vision. We receive monthly support items to assist in the support of our students and families. We receive food, clothes, school supplies, household items, Christmas gifts, and other need items. SOH partnered with World Vision during the 2006 school year to provide 250 backpack and school supplies to students at KB Polk Elementary.
North Texas Food Bank
SOH operates two food programs in partnership with the North Texas Food Bank. The first is a kids café, in which SOH receives prepared food pans made in the food bank kitchen. An average food pan will feed 20 students. The second program is an after-school feeding program. SOH purchases food in bulk quantity or receive free or discounted items, which we then cook for our students or give to families in the 75209 community.
Dallas Challenge Program Support
Dallas Challenge has been a partner since the inception of SOH. Dallas challenge provides our program with drug prevention, gang activities and social skill curricula. Our partnership grew from one program to year round programming for our students and training for our staff.
Union Missionary Baptist Church
Union was the first home of SOH. When SOH spun off from Voice of Hope Ministries, Dr. Charles Martin of UMBC partnered with SOH and provided office and program space for the group. That relationship led to Union’s Community Development Corporation and SOH winning an award from the state of Texas for innovative community programming. It was one of only 10 awards given statewide.
Goodwill Industries
SOH partners with Goodwill to provide summer jobs for 15 kids in North Park community and 15 students in Oak Cliff. The students work four weeks at minimum wage and provide services to local churches, recreation centers and youth involved in summer camp. The program is a great success. It allowed Bethany Missionary Baptist Church to run a summer food program for children attending summer camp at KB Polk and that program created jobs in the community.
Camp El Har
SOH helped recruit camp consuls and helped raise funds to send over 200 kids to summer camp at Camp el Har. Donna Patterson, SOH staff member, worked in the food services program at the camp.
Dalworth Weed & Seed Program Design
SOH designed the pilot after school program for the Weed and Seed Program that operated during the 2005 school year. That program evolved into a summer camp program for at- risk youth in which the SRT® program was used for the first time. In addition, the program employed 15 kids during the summer including a summer intern from the Dalworth community.
Junior Achievement Business Skills
SOH staff was the first staff and organization certificated to provide Junior Achievement in an after-school setting. We continue to use the program to work with our students.
